Addressing recent media reports regarding the security of Pakistani banks’ customer data, MCB Bank has issued the following statement:
“In wake of a recent incident of cybercrime related to fraudulent bank transactions due to data breach, MCB Bank would like to assure its valued customers that the customers’ data is completely safe. Not a single customer has been affected in the incident/report publicized in media. Furthermore, the Bank reaffirms to remain vigilant and assure the integrity of its systems. The clarification comes after the local media quoted an FIA official as revealing that the customer data of major Pakistani banks have been breached.
State Bank of Pakistan then issued directives to all banks to make arrangements to ensure security of all payment cards in the country and monitor the usage activity of their cards on a real-time basis, especially overseas transactions.
Earlier, Bank Islami had reported “certain abnormal transactions” valuing Rs 2.6 million being detected by the Bank on one of its international payment card schemes on the morning of October 27, 2018.
